Grand Knight's Message

Grand Knight's Message, #160; April 2010
Msgr. Sherman Council No. 5103

Dear Brother Knights,

Easter has now passed us and spring is well on the way. I hope that each of you had a meaningful Lenten season, a prayerful Holy Week, and a wonderful Easter. It’s a time of year to ask for forgiveness and to get closer to our faith and to our resurrected Savior, Jesus Christ, and I hope all of you found a way to do that.

I'd like to take this time to thank the membership for stepping up to the plate and making the many wintertime events we had a success. One event that truly stands out and deserves special attention is the St. Patrick’s celebration we had at the council. So many members had a hand in making it a rousing success that it would be senseless for me to try to mention them all, but please know that your efforts were appreciated by the many in attendance. The food was great, the music was wonderful, and the company was the best there is.

That party, plus the very well-attended dart tournament held two days before, made that weekend the most successful one—both financially and fraternally—I’ve seen since I’ve been a member of this council. It was gratifying to see so many people enjoying the council once again, and it proves that if we work hard and give our members and their families some good entertainment they will come. I know there are many people who love our council and will come and support us if we just give them a reason to do so. So please keep your eye on our new Web site (www.glendaleknights.com) and The Sherman Star for upcoming events.

By the time you receive this, the work being done on the council and the apartment upstairs should be almost complete, and I think the consensus is fairly unanimous: The council looks great. From those who have seen it, we’ve heard nothing but good things about the work that was done. For those who haven’t seen it, please make it a point to come down and see just how nice and comfortable the place looks now. I think you will agree that the money was well-spent. And one of the contractors we hired, Lou Franchino, is a member of the council, so please thank Lou when you see him for the work he put in.

At the risk of repeating myself, we have absolutely one of the finest councils to be found anywhere.

That’s it for now, brothers. Let’s keep up the hard work, let’s have some fun, and let’s do it all for the greater glory of God. If we do that, He will not fail us.

To the Utmost!

James Funaro, GK
